THE ROOM

The Room is a 250-capacity black box in the back half of a 1930s print works. The ceiling is low, the walls are bare, and there is nothing between the front row and the monitors. It was never designed as a venue, which is precisely why it works: the concrete gives the low end somewhere to sit and the low ceiling keeps a crowd loud.

We open it four or five nights a month — label shows, records we like, and touring acts who want somewhere small on their way through. Everything is run by three people and a rotating cast of friends, so if the merch table is unstaffed, help yourself and leave the money in the tin.
