Nine Volts

The Ardent came off stage at The Room on a Friday, went into the live room on Saturday morning still deaf, and cut both sides of this single before lunch. ‘Nine Volts’ is a first take. ‘Kestrel’ is a third, and only because the bass player broke a string. We pressed three hundred 7-inches with a hand-stamped white label because the artwork was not ready and the band did not want to wait, which in retrospect is the most accurate sleeve we have ever produced. It sold out at the counter of the venue in eleven days. If you missed it, both tracks are on ‘Heavy Weather’ in remixed form, but this is the version that actually happened.
