Where ‘Low Ceiling’ was recorded because there was no time, ‘Salt Air’ was recorded because there finally was. Nine songs across three weeks in a converted boathouse, with the doors open most of the time — which is why there are gulls all over side two and why we stopped trying to edit them out. The band arrived with fourteen songs and cut five, and every one of the survivors is better for it. ‘Foghorn’ is the one people play twice. ‘Last Bus’ is the one that will still be in the set in ten years.
