Static Bloom

Marisol brought us a folder of ninety-second fragments and asked whether there was a record in it. There was. ‘Static Bloom’ was built almost entirely from a single loop of a Juno-60 with a failing voice card — the one that drifts flat about a minute in, which she refused to fix on the grounds that it was the best thing about the instrument. We mastered it hot and short deliberately: twenty-two minutes, one side, no filler. It is the record that taught us the label did not have to be a guitar label. Pressed on clear vinyl in an edition of five hundred, with a screen-printed B-side because there was nothing to put on it.
